It;s not one of those books that is easily reviewed, so I’ll make this easy. Good balance as far as I call tell of the various views of the main character, with particular and effective examination of how the chief of the Powhatan nation may have been attempting to evaluate the threat offered by British colonies. The book states time and time again that Pocahontas never wrote anything down herself, so it is quite hard to discern the real tale considering white men of proper stature wrote back in those days and their opinions corrupt the true tale; but it would have been nice to learn more of Pocahontas and less of, well, everything else. I thought it was going to be a book about all the wonderful things Pocahontas and the Native Americans did, and all the awful things the Europeans did to them. Accessed May 23, Easy read and a defeat of the myth behind Pocahontas It reads easily in historical narrative style and Dilsmma felt like it was fair and unbiased in either direction. Beyond that, there’s really not much to review about this book.
Over time many English were sent to live with natives to learn their culture and a native would be sent with the English. The term we learned in class for this is recolonization.
The book talks of Pocahontas marriage first to a native warrior, but it fails to mention what happens to him. I could’ve sworn I was going to learn about Pocahontas but again, I was sadly mistaken.

Both the native and the English realize the need of each. I highly recommend this book–I read it in two days because it rilemma fascinating and made clear what is known and what can be reasonably speculated, though our course syllabus spread the reading out over a week.
